Capo Bastone Retired, To Sell at FTNOV

Capo Bastone (Street Boss–Fight to Love, by Fit to Fight), winner of the 2013 GI King's Bishop S., will be retired from racing. The Eclipse colorbearer will not run in the Breeders' Cup as originally planned, and will sell at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale as hip 193. “Our partners were very much looking forward to running Capo Bastone in his third consecutive Breeders' Cup race, but he came up with some filling in his left front ankle on Friday morning,” explained

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partner's President Aron Wellman. “While he's 100% sound, he's simply been too good to us for us to take any chances. Capo Bastone has been a tremendous campaigner, carrying the Eclipse colors to the top of the mountain when providing our partners with the ultimate thrill in the King's Bishop at Saratoga. He was a fast colt at age 2, 3 and 4 and possessed a brilliant turn of foot. We've been honored to be associated with such a talented and classy colt and we look forward to following Capo Bastone in his new career as a stallion.”

Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning offered, “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to sell an exciting stallion prospect like Capo Bastone. It's unique for us to be able to offer this type of opportunity at public auction and based on the inquiries we've gotten regarding Capo Bastone since the catalogue was released, we anticipate Capo Bastone being a highlight of what is shaping up to be a monumental evening.”

A  “TDN Rising Star”  after his successful debut, the chestnut would go on to third-place efforts in the GI FrontRunner S. and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile during his 2-year-old season. As a sophomore, Capo Bastone was second in the GIII Derby Trial S. and upset the GI Kings Bishop S. He retires with a career record of 17-3-2-2 with earnings of $731,756.
