Capitalist Needs Good Ground in 'Consul'

2015 G1 Golden Slipper S. hero Capitalist (Aus) (Written Tycoon {Aus}), who is slated to appear in the 1200-metre G2 Roman Consul S. at Randwick Oct. 1, will only run if he receives adequate ground, Racing and Sports reported Monday. The 'TDN Rising Star' most recently reported home fourth in the G3 San Domenico S. over 1100 metres in soft conditions and won an 800-metre Randwick barrier trial Sept. 20.

“I think all that let him down on the day [in the San Domenico] was a soft track, and even in his work he shows that he's not comfortable on it,” co-trainer Peter Snowden told Racing and Sports. “So I'm desperately hoping for a good track come Saturday and if it wasn't I probably wouldn't run him, because I just know that on top of the ground he's just brilliant.”

Added Snowden, “I know he's going well. That trial the other Day, That's a Good Idea (Aus)(Flying Spur {Aus}) and Redzel (Aus)(Snitzel {Aus}) were in the trial and they weren't having hard trials either, but he went past them going three-quarter pace.”

If Capitalist does not contest the Roman Consul, he will point to the Oct. 8 G2 Schillaci S. in Melbourne the following week.
