Cape Yearling Sale Topped by Soft Falling Rain Colt

The single-session Bloodstock South Africa Cape Yearling Sale saw 72 lots (83.7%) sold from 95 catalogued, grossing R4,210,000 (US$365,302/£261,610/€296,762). The average was R58,472 (-3.3%), but the median rose to R50,000 (+25%). Topping proceedings was a colt (lot 79) by Equus champion Soft Falling Rain (SAf), who sold for R200,000 (US$17,355 /£12,429/€14,099) to Bass Racing. The son of Minerva (SAf) (Western Winter), herself out of the MSW and G1SP Fragrant Lady (SAf) (Elliodor {Fr}), was consigned by Wilgerbosdrift. Fragrant Lady is a half-sister to South African champion juvenile filly Scented Royal (SAf) (Royal Prerogative {GB}). Under the third dam, Grade 1 winner Diorissimo (Triple Bend), is recent Dubai Group 2 hero Janoobi (SAf) (Silvano {Ger}).

“It was wonderful to see such a great turnout for the sale,” said Bloodstock South Africa's Michael Holmes. “While the economy continues to be a demanding one, we can take pleasure in the fact that the median rose this year, while the clearance rate for the Cape Sale also increased from last year. BSA would once again like to thank all the loyal breeders and buyers who continue to support local sales in this climate.”
