Unified took all the money and delivered the goods in his career debut, The colt, a $325,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling buy, worked steadily at Palm Meadows dating back to late December and was hammered down to 4-5 favoritism by the time the gates opened. Away to a razor-sharp beginning, he set the pace through a quarter-mile in :22.37 and was hawked by fellow firster–and $500,000 Keeneland September acquisition Mutaraamy (Tapit)–through a half in :45.14. Unified shook free from that rival cornering for home, held an open-length advantage by midstretch and glided across the wire three lengths clear, stopping the clock in a swift 1:08.95. Mutaraamy held on to complete the exacta. The winner, a half-brother to Honkeytonk Man (Bluegrass Cat, MSP, $101,557), hails from the extended family of champion MGISW Dehere (Deputy Minister). Union City, purchased for $260,000 with Honkeytonk Man in utero at the 2011 Keeneland November sale, produced a full-brother to Unified in 2015. She is a full-sister to graded stakes winner Dixie City. Click for the Equibase.com chart or Equineline.com catalogue-style pedigree. VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
