Colomano, who was second in his Sept. 11 debut at Dusseldorf, ran fifth at this track in the Oct. 16 G3 Preis des Winterfavoriten and closed last term with victory in Krefeld's Nov. 6 G3 Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen. He returned to run fourth in the Apr. 23 G3 Dr Busch-Memorial back at that track last time and registered a career high in this premier trial for the July 2 G1 Deutsches Derby here. Settled off the pace for much of this first try at 11 panels, he made relentless headway under urging in the straight to challenge approaching the final eighth and stayed on strongly to deny long-time leader and stablemate Windstoss nearing the line. Northsea Star kept on for third to provide trainer Markus Klug with the trifecta.
