Bulletin Stays Unbeaten With Sharp Score in Palisades Turf Sprint

Bulletin was all alone in the Palisades | Coady

Bulletin, winner of the inaugural Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, scored in another new stake Thursday at Keeneland when going wire to wire in the Palisades Turf Sprint S. Dominating the Hollywood Beach S. on debut last September at Gulfstream, the chestnut was not for catching on the yielding Churchill grass and was respected as the even-money favorite here in his seasonal debut. Away sharply under Javier Castellano, the $250,000 Keeneland September buy took up his customary spot at the head of affairs and showed the way through a :22.10 quarter. Kept after by Castellano on the turn, he showed an impressive turn of foot to blow the race open by the eighth pole. Real News put in a valiant late close, the only runner to make up significant ground, but Bulletin hit the wire comfortably clear of that rival.

“He's a special horse,” Castellano said. “You don't see too many horses like that. He's got so much talent. I just enjoyed the ride … You have to encourage him a little bit because he's the kind of horse who looks around a little bit. But this time he put it together. I like the way he did it today.”

WinStar Farm's Elliott Walden added that a start at Royal Ascot may be in the cards for Bulletin, saying, “That's kind of what we're looking at. We'll huddle up with Todd [Pletcher], let him do his job. He did a great job getting [Bulletin] ready for today. The horse was three [lengths] in front at the eighth pole, and I knew he wasn't going to get beat then. He's a very talented horse. We'd be honored to go to Royal Ascot.”

The victor's graded stakes-winning dam, a half to MSW/MGSP Easyfromthegitgo (Dehere), has a juvenile Uncle Mo colt named Newscaster and was bred to Violence last spring. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
