Brown Can Do, Again, In Sweetest Chant

Compelled is the 5-2 second choice in the Sweetest Chant | Adam Coglianese

Trainer Chad Brown is two weeks removed from his first Eclipse Award as America's champion trainer, and when Rymska (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}) enters the gate Saturday afternoon, he will likely be favored to unsaddle the winner of the GIII Sweetest Chant S. for a remarkable sixth straight season.

By the sire of G1 Prix de Diane winner Avenir Certain (Fr) and La Cressionniere (Fr), the €35,000 Arqana December weanling purchase defeated males in a listed stakes at Craon last September, then was outfinished by her now stablemate New Money Honey (Medaglia d'Oro) to be runner-up in the GIII Miss Grillo S. at Belmont Oct. 2, then finished a running-on fifth to the same rival when last seen with Lasix on for the first time in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' Turf Nov. 4.

“She was training particularly well going into the Breeders' Cup and didn't run bad at all,” said Brown. “Now that I've had the opportunity to have her in our program a little longer, I see a horse that has improved as she has turned three. She has been able to adapt to our system and we've gotten to know her better. I expect a good race from her.”

Glen Hil homebred Compelled (War Front) hasn't missed the frame in her four career trips to the post and has won two straight, including a 6 1/2-length thumping of the field in the Juvenile Fillies Turf at Gulfstream Park West Nov. 12. Produced by a half-sister to top sire Malibu Moon and from the family of Temple City (Dynaformer), Compelled is here on her merits, but will need to prove she can mix it at this level.

Tamit (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) returned her backers nearly 8-1 on her Keeneland debut last October, but was forced to cover extra ground in a local allowance Jan. 1 and could not resist a late rally from Fifty Five (Get Stormy). The latter trailed for most of the opening three-quarters of a mile that day, but kicked hard once produced down the center of the track and was along to score by a half-length. Nik Juarez has the call Saturday for trainer Tom Bush, who conditioned her sire to a win in the GI Gulfstream Park Turf H. in 2012.
