Bolt d'Oro Tunes Up

Unbeaten Bolt d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro) continued preparations for the Nov. 4 GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile with a four-furlong work at Santa Anita Sunday in :48.80. Jockey Corey Nakatani was in the irons for owner/trainer Mick Ruis.

“He went just like we were hoping,” Ruis said. “Corey never moved on him, he galloped out seven-eighths. That's all we wanted him to do. We know he has the air to go a mile and a sixteenth. We all saw that. We just have to keep him happy and fit. He'll have two more breezes here the next two Sundays, ship south the next day, walk that Monday, jog a couple of days, gallop a few days and then run. He'll have his final work six days in front of the race.”

A debut winner at Del Mar in August, Bolt d'Oro won the Sept. 4 GI Del Mar Futurity in his second start and is coming off a resounding 7 3/4-length romp in the Sept. 30 GI FrontRunner S.

Other Breeders' Cup workers at Santa Anita Sunday include: GI Classic hopeful West Coast (Flatter), who went six furlongs in company in 1:12; GI Distaff contender Abel Tasman (Quality Road), who went five furlongs in company in 1:00.40; and GI F/M Sprint defending champion Finest City (City Zip), who went six furlongs in 1:12.

Lady Eli (Divine Park), prepping for the GI F/M Turf, worked five furlongs over the inner turf course at Belmont Park Sunday in company in 1:01.45.

Oscar Performance (Kitten's Joy) was one of five Breeders' Cup-bound runners to tune up over the Keeneland turf course Sunday. The sophomore went four furlongs in :49.60 (video). Working in company were GI Juvenile Fillies Turf hopefuls Ultima D (Scat Daddy) (1:02.80) and Fairyland (Scat Daddy) (1:03.20). Also working in company were Master Merion (Quality Road) (Turf Sprint, 1:04.80) and Hemp Hemp Hurray (Artie Schiller) (Juvenile Turf, 1:05.60).
