Bolt d'Oro Puts in “Great” Move for BC Juvenile

Ruis Racing's undefeated Bolt d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro), the likely favorite for the Nov. 4 GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile, worked five furlongs in 1:01.40 Sunday morning at Santa Anita under the watchful eye of trainer Mick Ruis. Regular rider Corey Nakatani was up for the drill.

“I thought it was great,” Ruis said of the work. “Corey knows the horse, and like everyone says, you don't win the race in the morning. It looked like he got something out of it, but not much.”

Ruis continued, “He [was] not even breathing [hard]. He turned around like he was just on a gallop, so I'm happy–really happy.”

Ruis, who owns Bolt d'Oro with his wife, Wendy, said the bay would breeze another five-eighths at Santa Anita next Sunday and walk the next day prior to shipping down the coast to Del Mar. Bolt d'Oro parlayed a first-out maiden win at Del Mar into a victory in that venue's GI Del Mar Futurity Sept. 4. He successfully stretched out to two turns in the GI FrontRunner S. at Santa Anita Sept. 30, romping home to an easy 7 3/4-length score.
