Bianconi Dies In Australia

Bianconi | Racing Post

Talented sprinter Bianconi (Danzig–Fall Aspen, by Pretense {GB}) has died at age 21 in Australia as a result of complications from spinal cord damage.

A son of the blue hen producer Fall Aspen, Bianconi was campaigned by Mrs. John Magnier and trained by Aidan O'Brien and won the 1998 G2 Diadem S. at Ascot. Bianconi stood for four years at Coolmore's Ashford Stud in Kentucky, where he sired the Grade II-winning filly Redaspen and three other stakes winners, but he ultimately made a bigger mark Down Under. He is the sire of dual Group 1-winning sprinter and successful young sire Nicconi (Aus), and G1 Doomben Cup winner Above Deck (Aus). Bianconi remained permanently in Australia from 2005, standing at Swettenham Stud until 2014 and most recently standing at Ridgeview Park in Victoria, where he died. Bianconi is to date the sire of 19 stakes winners.
