Barry Lee Back in New York

'TDN Rising Star' Barry Lee (Violence) looks to make his second trip to New York more productive than his first as he takes on as many as five rivals in Belmont's GIII Futurity S. Saturday. A 6 1/2-length debut winner at Laurel July 14, the $380,000 OBSMAR pick-up was favored in the Aug. 13 GII Saratoga Special S., but dueled on the front end and faded to eighth. He showed a new dimension rallying from off the pace to annex the Arlington-Washington Futurity S. over the synthetic Sept. 9, but conditioner Horacio DePaz opts to add blinkers for this–he made a similar move with MGSP juvenile Recruiting Ready (Algorithms), who was dominant in a couple of sprint stakes this season at three. Engage (Into Mischief), a $550,000 OBS March acquisition himself, was second as the chalk on debut at the Spa Aug. 5 before breaking through by a half-length at 7-10 there Sept. 4. Mojovation (Quality Road) went box to wire on debut also upstate over a speed-friendly strip July 29, but never factored in the GI Hopeful S. Sept. 4.
