Barretts Shifts Paddock Sale Date

Barretts has shifted the date of its upcoming Paddock Sale at Del Mar from Sunday, July 30 to Wednesday, July 26 and the under-tack preview will be held Monday, July 24.
“The plan was always to go to a Monday preview and Wednesday sale day in 2018, but we've had a lot of interest in this year's sale, so we thought it would be easier for all involved to go ahead and change the dates this year,” explained Barretts General Manager Kim Lloyd. “Even though it's only a few days earlier, we thought having the sale earlier in the meet would give people a better chance to be able to run their horses at the meet.”
Moving the sale away from the busy weekends and to a shorter race day at Del Mar will also put more focus on the auction, according to Lloyd.
“Del Mar is so full of activities, we thought moving the sale away from the weekend would give us a better chance to highlight our sale,” he confirmed.
Barretts is now in its third year of selling at Del Mar and the sales company continues to tinker with its schedule. It announced last month that it was combining its two 2-year-olds in training sales into one auction. The shift of the Paddock Sale date is a continuation of those adjustments.
“Since we moved to Del Mar, it's been an ongoing process to find what would work best for our buyeres and consignors, particularly for members of the California racing industry,” Lloyd said. “So this is just another step in that process.”
