Baker Considering Dubai For 'Music'

Music Magnate | Racing And Sports

Trainer Bjorn Baker is giving serious consideration to sending his Group 1 winner Music Magnate (NZ) (Written Tycoon {Aus}) to Dubai to contest the G1 Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup night Mar. 31. The gelding had his finest hour when winning the G1 Doomben 10,000 in 2016 and bagged a brace of Group 2 events last year before finishing in rear on his final two runs at the top level. “Its looking a definite possibility, the nominations close next week so we will be making a decision over the next few days,” Baker told Racing And Sports.

With a number of domestic targets as an alternative Baker will have to adjust Music Magnate's training routine accordingly if he intends to target Dubai. “I'd like to back off him for a bit then bring him up to race fitness and then bring him over two to three weeks before the race, that's my thinking. There is a perfect prep race for him [in Dubai] three weeks before [World Cup Night] but I just wonder, out of his home environment, that he might take a bit longer to recover than would be ideal so I'd be more inclined to go fresh up into the race. His form fresh up is excellent so I have no worries on that score,” he added. Australian runners have a good record in the Al Quoz with Ortensia (Aus) (Testa Rossa {Aus}) winning in 2012 and Buffering (Aus) (Mossman {Aus}) scoring in the race in 2016.
