Baby Tapit (Aus) (Tapit), a half-brother to 'TDN Rising Stars' Kauai Katie (Malibu Moon) and her full-sister Winding Way, led gate to wire to graduate in Saturday's fourth race over the dirt surface at Sapporo Racecourse (video). Bred in partnership by Spendthrift Farm and Arrowfield, the son of More Than Pretty (More Than Ready) was consigned by Arrowfield to the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale (Sirecam.com video) and brought a final bid of A$500,000 from Kazumi Yoshida. A Sept. 30 foal, Baby Tapit was making his third career start, having finished a debut third at Tokyo May 3 before improving by one spot two weeks later. Trained by Makoto Saito, Baby Tapit was ridden to victory by Hong Kong champion jockey Joao Moreira and covered the 1700 meters in 1:45.50, defeating American Storm (Giant's Causeway) by 3 1/2 lengths as the 4-5 chalk. More Than Pretty has since been repatriated and produced a colt by Malibu Moon in 2014 and a has a weanling filly by the sire. She was bred to Temple City this year.
