Aurelia Bled In Cheveley Defeat

Lady Aurelia (Scat Daddy) was found to have bled after being scoped after her defeat as the 4-6 favourite in Saturday's G1 Cheveley Park S. at Newmarket. The 2-year-old 'TDN Rising Star', previously the winner of the G2 Queen Mary S. and G1 Prix Morny, lost her unbeaten record in the Cheveley Park when third behind the War Front pair of Brave Anna and Roly Poly. The bay folded late after setting fast fractions.

“It was a head-scratcher and disappointing, but when we got back to the barn the vet scoped her and she ended up having bled with a score of three out of five, which, in a Group 1, is enough to get you beat, probably,” said trainer Wesley Ward. “It's not good that she bled, but at least it's a bit of an answer as to the reason why she didn't kick on that last little bit of the race.”

Ward said Lady Aurelia would now get some recovery time at breeder and co-owner Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Farm.

“She's going to her owner's Stonestreet Farm for about 90 days,” he explained. “We'll pick her up in the first part of the year, get her going and hopefully we'll be able to get her back for Ascot for next year.”
