Arch's It Tiz Well Upsets Abel Tasman in Cotillion

'TDN Rising Star' and last out GI Alabama S. runner-up It Tiz Well got the better of three-time Grade I victress and heavily favored Abel Tasman in Saturday's GI Cotillion S. at Parx to register a career high.

It Tiz Well jumped well and sat a tracking second behind Lockdown through an opening quarter in :23.26. Just like she did in her victorious GI Coaching Club American Oaks effort beneath Hall of Famer Mike Smith, Abel Tasman, ninth in the early stages, made an aggressive middle move up the fence and challenged the pacesetter for command entering the far turn.

Those two continued throw down as It Tiz Well revved up with a three-wide sweep at the top of the lane. Abel Tasman kept fighting along the rail and outbattled the pacesetter, but was no match for It Tiz Well, who won going away.

Winner of Oaklawn's GIII Honeybee S. earlier this term, It Tiz Well was third behind fellow 'TDN Rising Star' Paradise Woods (Union Rags) and Abel Tasman in the GI Santa Anita Oaks Apr. 8. Off the board in the GII Summertime Oaks June 17, she returned to winning ways in the GIII Delaware Oaks July 8 and was second-best to Elate after setting the pace in the Alabama.

Pedigree Notes:

It Tiz Well is by Arch, responsible for a trio of champions including GI Breeders Cup Classic hero Blame in addition to Canadian Horse of the Year Arravale. The dual stakes winner It Tiz, a half-sister to Canadian champion Solid Appeal (Successful Appeal), is also responsible for a filly by Ghostzapper, who realized $230,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2015; and a yearling filly of this year by Scat Daddy. This term, she produced a colt by City Zip and was bred back to Honor Code. It Tiz brought $170,000 from It Tiz Well's breeders Susan and Allen Branch at the 2008 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
