'Alice' Heads 'Chariot' Contenders

Alice Springs | Racing Post

Dual Group 1 winner Alice Springs (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) is one of 10 fillies in contention for Saturday's G1 Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot S. at Newmarket. Aidan O'Brien's charge broke her top-level duck with victory in the G1 Falmouth S. on the July Course during the summer and while she disappointed on her next start in the G1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville, she bounced back with a superb display in the G1 Matron S. at Leopardstown on Sept. 10.

She could renew rivalries this weekend with the John Gosden-trained G3 Atalanta Fillies' S. winner Persuasive (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), who was unbeaten in her first five starts before filling the runner-up spot in the Matron.

There are a trio of interesting contenders from France with Jean-Claude Rouget's Ervedya (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) joined in the entries by Freddy Head's Siyoushake (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) and Volta (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) from Francis-Henri Graffard's stable. There is also a potential South African raider in the form of Smart Call (SAf) (Ideal World). Always Smile (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}), Arabian Queen (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), Irish Rookie (Ire) (Azamour {Ire}) and Epsom Icon (GB) (Sixties Icon {GB}) complete the list.
