Acapulco to Be Trained by O'Brien

Acapulco | Racing Post

Acapulco (Scat Daddy), who scored her biggest win in the G2 Queen Mary S. at Royal Ascot in 2015, will be transferred to Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O'Brien from the Wesley Ward barn, Racing Post reported Monday. Her long-term goal is the G1 King's Stand S. at Royal Ascot in June. The hulking chestnut behemoth ran second in the G1 Coolmore Nunthorpe S. at York for the Coolmore partners in August of 2015. Also a winner of the Unbridled's Sidney S. last May, the American-bred was last seen running sixth from an abbreviated three-start campaign in the GIII Senator Ken Maddy S. at Santa Anita Nov. 5 and will be bred to Galileo (Ire) this spring.

“She's a very fast filly who would look made for the King's Stand S. at Royal Ascot,” O'Brien commented to Racing Post. “Wesley [Ward] spoke to Paul [Shanahan, of Coolmore Stud] and told him it may be worth doing some work with her ahead of her date with Galileo, as he felt he didn't get a proper run with her ahead of her final start for him when she was beaten at Santa Anita. We haven't done anything with her yet, but Wesley felt that she had more to give and she could run up to Royal Ascot, providing everything goes to plan.”
