ARC DRAWS SIXTEEN; O'BRIEN TRIO ON THE WING
Attempting to halt a run of five straight Group 1 runner-up finishes this term, Aidan O'Brien trainee Found (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) was served no favours during a televised draw ceremony and drew box 12 for Sunday's G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly. Although faring better than last term's lottery when just two started wider at Longchamp, this year's kinder venue may assist in avoiding a repeat of her troubled trip in that latest renewal and provide O'Brien with just a second win in the 12-furlong contest. She starts alongside Ballydoyle stablemate Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who's in 11, with O'Brien's trio of double-digit boxes completed by Order of St George (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who is drawn widest of all 16 runners. Japanese raider Makahiki (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), who backed up his win in the G1 Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) with an impressive albeit narrow score in last month's G2 Prix Niel over course and distance, is another to get an outside gate in 14. Ante-post favourite Postponed (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) fared much better and his short odds contracted further when allocated post seven, while His Highness The Aga Khan's G1 Epsom Derby and G1 Irish Derby hero Harzand (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) starts next door in six. Other leading contenders with varying fortunes include last term's third New Bay (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), one of four representatives for his sire, who will seek to extend trainer Andre Fabre's record haul of seven editions exiting the eight box, and last month's G1 Prix Vermeille victress Left Hand (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), who drew wide in 15.
