MARLINSPIKE (Tapit&log=">Tapit) ships in from Arlington for a crack at a big purse on debut and is a daughter of champion Surfside (Seattle Slew), who was acquired by the Gainesway braintrust for $500K in foal to Giant's Causeway at KEENOV in 2009. The foal Surfside was carrying at the time became GSW Irish Surf (Giant's Causeway) and Marlinspike is the mare's only live produce since. Surfside's dam Flanders (Seeking the Gold) was 1994's champion 2-year-old filly and is also responsible for MGSW Battle Plan (Empire Maker), now a sire in Japan. Marlinspike carries 4×2 inbreeding to Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew. Essentially (Maclean's Music&log=">Maclean's Music) is a daughter of the late SW Ticket to Houston (Houston), dam of MGSW & MGISP Runway Model (Petionville) as well as SW & MGSP Mambo Train (Kingmambo). A $100K KEESEP yearling, MARAUD (Blame&log=">Blame) breezed an eighth of a mile in :10 1/5 over the Timonium main track a little less than two weeks after his year-older close relative Arklow (Arch) pulled a minor upset in the GIII American Turf S. at Churchill Downs. Maraud fetched a final bid of $375K, the most expensive of 10 juveniles to sell by the Claiborne stallion in 2017. Maraud is out of a half-sister to the successful turf runner Fourty Niners Son (Distorted Humor) and to 2000 GI Del Mar Debutante victrix Cindy's Hero (Sea Hero), dam of MGSW Delegation (Speightstown). Oroscopo (Orb) was a $75K purchase out of last year's KEESEP sale and matured into a $325K OBSAPR 2yo after breezing an eighth of a mile in :10 1/5. Half-sister Indian Pond (Speightstown) was a SW on synth and Grade II-placed on the grass. TJCIS PPs

Storm Dixie (Catienus), dam of 2013 GI Kentucky Oaks winner Princess of Sylmar (Majestic Warrior), was purchased in foal to Tapit&log=">Tapit for $1.9 million by Barronstown Stud at FTKNOV in 2014, and that produce, BIBLICAL, gets his career underway for China Horse Club and Princess of Sylmar's trainer Todd Pletcher. A $500K KEENOV weanling, the gray was an $800K acquisition at FTSAUG in 2016. Hofburg (Tapit&log=">Tapit) is a Juddmonte homebred half-brother to GISW Emollient (Empire Maker) and SW & GSP Courtier (Pioneerof the Nile), while Venezuela (Violence&log=">Violence), out of a half-sister to the dam of MGISW Miss Temple City (Temple City), is an $85K FTKNOV weanling turned $300K KEESEP yearling, fourth most expensive of the sire's 70 first-crop youngsters to sell in 2016. INSTILLED REGARD (Arch) was led out of last year's KEESEP sale unsold when bidding stalled out at $110K, but it was a different story at OBSMAR when the maternal grandson of champion Heavenly Prize (Seeking the Gold) was hammered down to Larry Best's OXO Equine for $1.05 million after working a quarter-mile in :20 4/5. Instilled Regard's dam Enhancing (Forestry) is a half-sister to GSW Pure Prize (Storm Cat) and MGISW Good Reward (Storm Cat). Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile)'s full-brother St Patrick's Day is back in the entries 13 days after finishing a big-figure second to Zayat Stables' Zatter (Midnight Lute) going six furlongs.
