10 Remain In Fascinating Juddmonte

Golden Horn | Racing Post

The latest confirmation stage for next Wednesday's G1 Juddmonte International S. at York sees the two 3-year-old titans Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and Gleneagles (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) stand their ground among a prospective field of 10. The only defector was the Dermot Weld-trained Free Eagle (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) who, as previously reported, will reroute to the G1 Irish Champion S. This also means that Pat Smullen should be free to take the mount on another intriguing contender Time Test (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}).

The smooth winner of Royal Ascot's G3 Tercentenary S. has pleased Roger Charlton in his buildup with just one more piece of work planned to put the finishing touches to his preparation.

The Beckhampton trainer said, “He's got to work on Friday and, if he does that well and comes out of it, yes, he's all on course. It's going to be a four- or five-horse race. Golden Horn may have to make the running, Gleneagles may not get the trip. It would be no disgrace to be third. If we can finish in front of one of them, or both of them, even better.”

Further spice is added to the field with local runner The Grey Gatsby (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) reported in great shape by trainer Kevin Ryan. The Frank Gillespie owned 4-year-old re-opposes Golden Horn with a three-pound weight pull for his defeat to John Gosden's colt in the G1 Eclipse S. at Sandown July 4. Australian challenger MG1SW Criterion (NZ) (Sebring {Aus}) also remains in the field adding further top class form to what could be the race of the European summer.
