$1 Million American Pharoah Colt to Coolmore

Hip 533 | Keeneland

Coolmore went to an even $1 million to secure a flashy gray colt from the first crop of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah during Tuesday's second session of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale. The short yearling, consigned by Paramount Sales, is a half-brother to Coolmore's Group 1 winner Caravaggio (Scat Daddy).

American Pharoah doesn't need any explaining and Aidan O'Brien always believed Caravaggio to be the best sprinter he ever trained, so when our team considered the colt the best individual in the sale, it was an easy decision for us to make,” Coolmore's M.V. Magnier, in Australia for the Magic Millions Sale, said in a statement.

The result was the second seven-figure sale of American Pharoah's young stud career. He was represented by a $1 million filly at the Fasig-Tipton November sale. Hip 533 is the third most-expensive yearling colt in history to sell at the January sale and the sixth priciest overall.
